Duration 40 minutes

“The life that you live in order to photograph it is already, at the outset, a commemoration of itself,”

Italo Calvino

Here some video documentation of the live action:

The action was performed in collaboration with Marcio Vasconcelos and Gabriel Arroyo Gallardo and involved the destruction of a large artifact made of photographs and several glasses of water.

Connected by a rope in tension and holding a plastic cup as a camera, the PhotoPerformer and collaborators moved in circle pushing their body weights in opposite directions.

In between a street game, a contest of strength and a conceptual installation, the action intended to express our resistance to forget and the inevitable oblivion.

At some point the rope was replaced by clear plastic film and two performers were wrapped into a cocoon.

The photo documentation was created by Rodrigo Munhoz, Camilla Loreta, Pedro Galiza and Cristiana Nogueira.

“Perhaps all anxiety might derive from a fixation on moments — an inability to accept life as ongoing.”

Sarah Manguso
